Exchange 2010 Archiving
We're contacted frequently by existing Enterprise Vault customers who want to start using the new Mailbox Archiving feature in Exchange 2010. Below are a few frequently asked questions and our answers.
Please see the page for our Restore product for more information.
Q: We would like to move all of the users items back to their mailbox, and use the built-in archiving feature of Exchange 2010. Can you help us accomplish this?
A: Yes! This is precisely what our Enterprise Vault Restore product does. We help people restore items to Exchange from Enterprise Vault nearly every single day.
Q: Doesn't Enterprise Vault have a built in restore feature? Why do we need your product?
A: They sort of do, but chances are it won't fill your performance needs, and you won't be happy with the final outcome if you try cutting corners by using the built in restore. This is for a number of reasons:
- The built in restore feature is extremely time intensive. Someone needs to manually restore each and every mailbox. Our restore product is automated - just select however many mailboxes you'd like to restore, and "run now" or "schedule" for later!
- Our product is multi-threaded, can run in the background, and can be scheduled. This and other reasons results in much less stress on your archiving system, and can restore your items much much faster.
- EV will restore items to the location they were originally archived from, even if the corresponding shortcuts have been moved or deleted. We restore items based on the current shortcut location.
Q: How difficult is it to use your product? What sort of help do you offer?
A: Not difficult at all! Many of our customers are able to install and configure our product by themselves. We can walk you through how to do it over the phone or via Webex. You can generally expect to be restoring emails in less than an hour!
Q: Can your tool restore items directly to an Exchange 2010 Mailbox Archive from Enterprise Vault?
A: Yes. If you move a mailbox to Exchange 2010, and then archive some or all of the items, our tool can find the shortcuts in the both the Exchange Mailbox and the Exchange Archive Mailbox, and restore the items from the Enterprise Vault Mailbox Archive to the appropriate location.
Q: Do I need to buy services in addition to your software?
A: No! We strive to make our software as streamlined as possible, and many of our customers buy our software and do not buy services from us or anyone else for their restoration needs. We can help you install the software and provide support, and our software is automated enough that customers generally only need to check on the progress occasionally. If you do want services, we or one of our many partners would be happy to provide them for you.
Q: Ok, I'm interested. Can I get a trial version?
A: Of course - just fill out our Contact Form and we can send you a kit including a trial license. Be sure to include your Enterprise Vault and Exchange versions.
