I was very happy to hear that Veritas purchased Globanet last fall. This is great news for Vertitas, Globanet, their customers, and anyone that works closely with both companies, as we have since our company started in 2006.
Why is this good?
I’ve talked with several people about this since it happened, and the consensus is that the major benefit for Veritas is the very successful Merge1 product that Globanet has developed.
Why is it good for Veritas?
It adds an important feature to their information management platform – the ability to archive many more types of data besides just email and files. Increasingly (especially for financial institutions) it is important to archive data from the likes of LinkedIn, Teams, Facebook, Bloomberg Messenger, etc.
Why is it good for Globanet?
I’ve worked with Globanet since their early years in the late 90’s and can say with great certainty that Sevag Ajamian and his team have done an admirable job of building the company. In the early years, they focused on services, but over time, developed software to help them bring in recurring revenue and enhance their profit margin.
One of their early products provided the ability to bring Bloomberg chat messages into Enterprise Vault. Later they expanded to other sources, and eventually rebranded this product Merge1, which can now bring in data from at least 80 different sources. This data can go to not only Enterprise Vault and Enterprise Vault.cloud, but also other archiving solutions.
From our own experience selling Enterprise Vault enhancements to large global enterprises, one of the most common requests is the ability to buy the solution from Veritas rather than a third party. Globanet was successful in getting some of their products on Veritas’s price sheet earlier last year, but the acquisition solidifies the commitment from Veritas and puts the strength of Veritas’ worldwide sales force behind the products. I know from speaking to one of the Globanet sales managers that they have been extremely busy since the announcement.
Why is it good for the customers?
While Enterprise Vault and Enterprise Vault.cloud are strong and capable products (according to Gartner Peer Insights ™ customers who reviewed Veritas Technolgies archiving products over the last 12 months gave Veritas an average 4.6 rating out of 5 for Product Capabilities), the main complaint I’ve heard from longtime customers is the perception that there wasn’t much focus being giving to this product line. This acquisition makes a clear statement that Veritas is committed to enhance their archiving solutions.
Why is it good for the partners?
Many partners, such us ourselves, have a lot invested in the Enterprise Vault product line. It is easier to go back to existing customers and up-sell new capabilities if those capabilities are backed by Veritas. In our case, the value of our Archive Accelerator Catalog and Archive Accelerator Enterprise Search products are enhanced by including the other data sources that the Globanet Merge1 product brings to the table.
And now Veritas has purchased HubStor, further evidence of their investment in the space.
The future is bright for all of our customers, and we’re already working with Veritas, HubStor and Globanet on joint opportunities to help customers achieve their goals. After all, we’re here to help our customers succeed, and that’s good for all of us!
