For almost two decades, Symantec has been tackling the age-old dilemma of managing and storing unstructured data with Enterprise Vault. With the release of Enterprise Vault Version 10 in 2011, Symantec not only addressed business challenges like Data Classification and Social Media Archiving, but provided a significant upgrade to the indexing component. By upgrading the indexing architecture from a 32-bit to 64-bit, Enterprise Vault was able to take advantage of the increased memory in newer systems, making concurrent updating and searching possible.
At Vault Solutions, we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the indexing engine’s new version and make improvements to our own product. With the additional memory accessible in a 64-bit architecture, we were able to improve performance and scalability, increasing speed by 10x over previous versions of End User Search and Restore and enabling more users to search simultaneously. This recent enhancement reduces the burden on IT departments by providing a more efficient search function, and therefore cutting down on help desk tickets. Lost emails are now found by end users, not IT.
